Polished concrete and sealed concrete floors look the same. Even some contractors may have trouble first distinguishing between the two systems. However, the shine/finish is achieved by completely different processes. Polished concrete is more labor demanding and involves more steps than grind/sealed concrete floors
Polished concrete is the mechanical process of refining and polishing the surface of a current concrete slab using SASE floor grinders fitted with industrial diamond abrasives. During this process, the concrete is ground, refined, and polished using finer grits of diamond abrasives until the floor reaches the desired level of shine. With polished concrete, there are four levels of finish/shine.
The most basic definition of epoxy flooring implies a flooring surface that comprises multiple layers of epoxy that is applied to a floor with a penetration of at least two millimeters. Misunderstanding typically arises when comparing an epoxy floor and epoxy floor coating. The difference between the two lies in the depth of the epoxy - as stated, epoxy floors are classified as an epoxy coating of at least two millimeters thick. Any epoxy floor less than two millimeters thick is commonly referred to as an epoxy floor coating.
A concrete overlay involves preparing your existing concrete surface before laying new concrete on top of the slab or floor. The concrete overlay can be stamped, dyed, and stained to achieve a magnificent final result.
